Leaving Larnaca on the B2 heading towards Nicosia, a few miles out there is a left turning for Limpia, straight on is the village of Athienou. Right in the heart of the village is a a traditional Cypriot restaurant called ‘Haroulla’s’
The first thing you will notice is the traditional feel of the old village building. It’s built of Earth and Straw in the traditional way, with very high ceilings. The service is wonderful and the food is delicious. I’d recommend the Meze, each portion is much more than the average person can eat, so bear that in mind if there are a few of you, in that case it would be worth ordering ‘Kleftiko’ as well.
If you arrive after 7:30/8:00PM you normally get hot bread straight from the oven of the local bakery, Athienou is famous for its bread. The quality and volume of food would not be matched by places in coastal areas for twice the price, definitely worth visiting.
