The ridiculous reality of the ECHR
Member ship of the ECHR does not equate to countries that respect human rights!
Here is a list of member nations:
Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Türkiye, Ukraine, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Russian Federation?
Turkey?
Tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people from Turkey, have successfully claimed asylum in the UK, because the UK accepts that Turkey does not respect their human rights. The UK also accepts that their lives would be in danger and yet they are signatories to the ECHR.
We need not add anything when talking about the Russian Federation, yet:
The USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand ARE NOT signatories to the ECHR, is there anyone who would even consider making an argument that these nations demonstrate less regard for human rights that Turkey or the Russian Federation?
Therefore, it is fair to say that we do not need to be part of the antiquated catastrophe, that has tied our legal system up in knots, and prevents us from taking steps to secure our nation from criminals, terrorists and economic migrants.
We must leave the ECHR post haste!
Britain does not have a human rights deficit; but it does have a democratic deficit, in the sense that its elected representatives are subordinate to quangos, bureaucracies and activist judges.
